A guide to Denver — breweries, sports, Red Rocks, and Union Station, plus why to acclimate here before the mountains, drive times, and where to stay.

The short version: Denver, the Mile High City, is where nearly every Colorado trip begins — a lively, walkable city of breweries, sports, museums, and music, about 90 minutes from the mountains. Spend a night or two here to acclimate before heading up high. Part of our Colorado trip-planning guide.

Most visitors fly into Denver and rush straight to the mountains — but the city is worth a day or two on either end of your trip.
