About Breckenmendations

Breckenmendations is your local’s guide to Colorado outdoor sports — where to go, what to do, and exactly what to bring, season by season, mountain by mountain.

Why we started this

Colorado’s mountains are unlike anywhere else: you’re starting at an elevation most trails never reach, the sun is stronger, the weather turns on a dime, and the best stuff isn’t always in the guidebooks. We spend our summers and winters up here — hiking, skiing, biking, fishing, and exploring Summit County and the I-70 corridor — and we kept wishing there were one honest place that told visitors what we’d figured out the hard way. So we built it.

What you’ll find here

  • Gear guides dialed for Colorado’s real conditions — altitude, sun, and mountain weather — with live prices and honest picks.
  • Destination guides to Breckenridge, Frisco, Vail, and beyond.
  • Activity guides for skiing, hiking, biking, rafting, and everything in between.
  • Local tips the shops up here won’t volunteer — like buying your canned oxygen before you drive up.

Who’s behind it

Breckenmendations is written by locals who actually get out on these trails and slopes. Our guides are grounded in first-hand experience, not stock photos and guesswork. Melissa, who splits her year between Texas and Summit County, Colorado, leads our recommendations.

How we make money (and stay honest)

We’re reader-supported: when you buy through our links, we may earn a small commission at no cost to you. That never changes our picks — see how we pick and our affiliate disclosure. If something isn’t worth your money, we’ll tell you.
