Why is the sun so much stronger in Colorado?
Two reasons: there's less atmosphere above you to filter UV at altitude — roughly 4% more UV for every 1,000 feet — and snow or bright terrain reflects even more back at you. At 9,000 to 12,000 feet you can burn in half the time it takes at sea level, even on a cool or cloudy day.
Do I really need special sunscreen for altitude?
